Dear Supporter: For more than 50 years, Phil Walden coached, mentored and served as a father figure and taxi driver, as well as paid sporting fees out of his OWN pocket for hundreds of youth in our Portland area communities. Many of us have grown to realize that had it not been for the care, patience, love and financial support Mr. & Mrs. Walden showed toward us, we could have easily ended up living a life quite different from the one we currently live. If Mr. & Mrs. Walden had not structured, motivated and supported our athletic pursuits, not only would we not have the thousands of Albina Sports Program success stories, but the cap and gown of graduation could have easily been the striped jumpsuit of prison, or worse. Our dear Coach passed away Monday, August 22nd, 2011. We are endeavoring to establish the Phil Walden Scholarship and annual sporting events to continue honoring his name.
